Elin Nordegren, who did some modeling before becoming a nanny and meeting her future husband, Tiger Woods, graduated from Rollins College in Florida yesterday, and was even chosen to give one of the commencement speeches. Because that would be an awful e-mail to send! Anyway, they had a nice time at their party and that was basically that. Surely an e-mail like that was never sent, would never be sent. But it’s probably not true! It’s the Daily Mirror, after all. It seemed like a pretty low-key affair, and he and Alamuddin looked happy and relaxed, even though the Daily Mirror recently posted a story about their engagment, claiming that Clooney e-mailed Alamuddin and jokingly said, “I think the reported hottest man in the world should meet with the hottest human-rights lawyer in the world.” Which, if true, is horrifying. So they were there, obviously, as was Clooney’s pal Bono, from U2. George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin had a little engagement party at the Malibu restaurant Cafe Habana, which is owned by Clooney’s friends, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. Man, this guy can keep making records forever. What happens to Eminem on Father’s Day? There’s another song. He’s got to apologize to her for talking about wanting to kill her mom all the time. If he’s already figured stuff out with Kim, I guess it’s on to the daughter then. Or has he already made an apology video for her? I stopped watching this show a few seasons ago so I’m not caught up. Still, this does feel like a big step forward for Eminem, so congrats to him, and to Debbie, wherever she may be. Telling Eminem to stop writing songs about this stuff would be like telling Art Alexakis that he can’t write songs about his dad. Those are the characters in his grand drama. He’s been telling the story of him, Debbie, and Kim for years now. Or is it? I mean, what else was he going to be making music about? That is what Eminem makes music about. But that he’s still making music about them is surprising. I mean, aren’t you? Did you know that Eminem was still rapping about Debbie and his ex-wife, Kim, and stuff? Not that these sorts of things are easy to get over, obviously he will probably be dealing with his family issues for the rest of his life. The song’s been out for a little while, but the new video has gotten a lot of attention since yesterday, obviously because it’s another of Eminem’s very candid depictions of his personal life, but also because, I think, people are fascinated to hear that this whole thing is still going on!
The video is told from a fake version of Debbie’s perspective, while Em raps about how he regrets saying a lot of the intense things he said about her so publicly. Yesterday, Eminem released a Spike Lee-directed video for his song “Headlights,” which is about the complicated relationship he’s had with his mother, Debbie Mathers, since he was a child. How was your Mother’s Day? Did you get to take your mom to brunch? Did you send flowers and a card, or at least call? Or, if you are yourself a mom, did your spouse and your kids take you somewhere nice, or bring you breakfast in bed? Did they give you a little coupon book good for things like “1 Weeding the Side Yard”? There are many perfectly pleasant, meaningful ways to spend Mother’s Day, but unless you also released a music video apologizing for rapping about wanting to kill your mom for years, or your son released just such a video, you did not have as profound a Mother’s Day as Eminem and his mom did.
